Learning with LeapFrog Academy

I enjoy teaching my children at home. We usually do hands-on activities such as arts and crafts as well as reading, workbooks, and computer games. With the computer games, most are educational while some are just for fun. I find that with the educational games my children tend to get bored easily. I have been searching for one that covers many subjects such as science, math, writing, and reading. There are some games that have these subjects, but they are either too hard, not hard enough, or just not enjoyable. I received an email last month inviting me to check out a new program called Leapfrog Academy. My children have plenty of Leapfrog toys so I figured I would sign up for a free 30-day trial and give it a try.

What is Leapfrog Academy?

Leapfrog Academy is a very fun and educational way for children ages 3-6 to learn about different subjects such as math, reading, science, and more.

It was designed by Leapfrog Learning experts to provide children ages 3-6 with various interactive learning games and activities. They provide a well-rounded curriculum through math, reading, science, creativity, problem-solving, and social-emotional skills. Children learn through reading books, games, puzzles, videos, music, art, and more. With over more than 1,000 games and activities, Leapfrog Academy has something for every child.

What was my experience with Leapfrog Academy?

I love it and my children do also which is very important to me. They easily understand how the program works. For instance, after you complete a few activities you will see a character holding yellow balloons then the character flies away. My children know that once this happens that they will a reward and move on to a new subject. My son who is 5 years old usually wants to stop playing once he gets his reward. My daughter who is 3 years old understands this concept as well.

I asked my son which game he likes compared to another popular learning program and he told me that he likes Leapfrog because the other program is boring. I find that the activities are customized to your child’s age. My son who is getting ready to start Kindergarten just learned through this program about muscles and where different body parts are inside your body and how they work. He is also able to do the activities with little to no help from me. I sit with my daughter to help her with the mouse but she is able to do the activities. She points to the correct numbers, colors, and letters.

What are our favorite activities in Leapfrog Academy?

My 3-year-old enjoys the learning videos as well as books. I set the books to read to her so she will sit there and usually repeat what is being said.

My son enjoys the lessons, puzzles, and games the most. He likes to learn about the subjects on feelings, health, science and the world.

I personally like the reading and writing activities. There are many lessons on letters, sounds, spelling sight words, and blending sounds, which is something that I am teaching them outside of the program also.

Will I continue to use Leapfrog Academy?

Absolutely! This is one learning program where I can tell that my children are actually enjoying it and learning. Through the parent dashboard I am able to see how they are progressing and additional activities that they can do. This is a really awesome educational program and I would definitely recommend for young learners.
